Where are the admission requirements for my program?

Admission requirements vary by program. Check the web page of your program of choice. This information can also be found in the current Program Guide (viewbook).

Can I enroll in a post-secondary program if I do not have a high school diploma or equivalent?

What is the deadline to apply for a program?

For quota programs (where space is limited), the deadline is February 1. All other programs remain open until they reach maximum enrolment or until classes begin. The Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) maintains program status up to the first week of the phase. For additional information, see the “Admissions and Registration Process” section under the Office of Admissions and Registrar.

What does OCAS mean?

OCAS stands for Ontario College Application Service. It is the Ontario Public College Application Service (OCAS). All Canadian applicants must go through this agency to apply to one of the 24 colleges in the province. The website for OCAS/SACO is www.collegesdelontario.ca.

Do I have to apply to OCAS/SACO?

All Canadian applicants must apply to OCAS. International applicants should instead visit the International Application Office to learn about the international admission process.

Will my out-of-province education be recognized?

If you are a Canadian applicant from outside Ontario, the Admissions and Registrar’s Office will assess the recognized equivalencies for your province or territory. See the « Admissions and Registration Process” under the Office of Admissions and Registrar for additional information.

Do I have to send you my high school transcript?

For applicants who are currently attending high school in Ontario, the school board will forward your transcript as proof of your Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Applicants who attended high school outside of Ontario must send in their transcripts. For more information, see the transcript information in the « Admission and Registration Process” under the Office of Admissions and Registrar.

Do I need to have my diplomas and transcripts evaluated from another Canadian province or territory?

Collège Boréal has already evaluated and established course equivalencies between Ontario and Quebec or New Brunswick. For more information, consult the information regarding transcripts in the section « Admission and Registration Process” under the Office of Admissions and Registrar. For other jurisdictions, please contact the Office of Admissions and Registrar.

I have completed studies at another college or university. Can my previous studies be recognized?

Collège Boréal offers you a wide range of career options. Consult the section « Credit Transfer Options” for more information.

Do I need to have my credentials evaluated from institutions outside of Canada?

Yes, we need to determine the Canadian equivalencies of your studies in order to make an offer of admission. See the International Application Office page for more information.

Can I have my work and life experiences recognized towards my studies at Collège Boréal?

Yes, you can apply for Prior Learning Assessment. See the “Credit Transfer Options” section for more information.

Does Collège Boréal accept candidates from immersion schools?

Yes! See the information on the ability to speak and write in English and French in the “Admission and Registration Process” under the Office of Admissions and Registrar.

Does Collège Boréal accept candidates who have taken pre-employment courses (theory courses)?

No. Ontario high school courses at the pre-college or pre-university level, or their equivalent, are required for eligibility to a program at Collège Boréal. However, if you do not meet the admission criteria, there are several options available to you! Visit the Adult Development Center page for more information.

What is a quota program?

Admission to some programs is restricted, meaning that the number of places is limited since the program is in very high demand. See the “Admission and Registration Process” section under the Office of Admissions and Registrar for additional information.

What are my chances of being accepted into a quota program?

If you applied before February 1, your application will receive the same consideration as other applicants. Your scores will determine whether you are accepted or placed on a waiting list. For more information, see the information on quota programs in the « Admission and Registration Process” under the Office of Admissions and Registrar.

What happens if I am on a waiting list?

If you are placed on a waiting list for a quota program, the Admissions Office will notify you. For more information, see the information on quota programs in the « Admission and Registration Process” under the Office of Admissions and Registrar.

What programs are available for international students?

International students are eligible to apply to all of our programs except those offered entirely online. However, some of our programs have quotas – priority must be given to applicants from Ontario, then to applicants from other Canadian provinces and territories, and finally to international applicants. For more information, please visit the « Admissions and Registration Process” under the Office of Admissions and Registrar or visit the International Application Office page.

When will I receive my offer?
What is a conditional offer of admission?

This means that you are accepted with conditions. You must therefore ensure that you meet the requirements of your program and the conditions listed before the start of classes. The offer will be withdrawn if you fail to meet these requirements or conditions (e.g., proof of study VISA, proof of citizenship, high school diploma, transcript, proof of prerequisites, etc.). Carefully read the instructions in the Admissions and Registrar’s Office and contact them for any follow-up as soon as possible.

I have received a conditional offer because I do not meet one or more admission requirements. What is the next step?

Collège Boréal offers all the upgrading courses necessary to be admitted to a college program. This program is free to adults 19 years of age and older. To register for the upgrading courses, visit the Adult Development Center for more information.

Once registered, send an email to admission@collegeboreal.ca (domestic applicants) or international@collegeboreal.ca (international applicants) to notify us that you have begun the process to meet the admission requirements. If you complete the training before the program begins, you may receive an unconditional offer of admission!

What if there are medical requirements in my program?

If your program has specific requirements, an email with the necessary forms will be sent to you (Registration Package). Consult the Student Forms for more information.

How can I confirm my offer from Collège Boréal?

It is important to confirm your offer as soon as possible in order to reserve your spot. You must do this from the OCAS/SACO website. See the “Admission and Registration Process” under the Office of Admissions and Registrar.

Your student number is on all correspondence (letters). If you can’t find it, send an email to registrariat@collegeboreal.ca.

When and where do I apply for a study permit (visa)?

Once accepted to the College, you must file an application. For more information, visit the International Application Office.

What is Collège Boréal's designated educational institution number (study permit - visa)?

International applicants must provide a Designated Educational Institution (DEI) number on their application for a study permit.

Can I defer my application to the next year if I decide not to start at the scheduled time?

The application for admission is valid for one academic year only and cannot be carried over to the next year. Contact the Office of Admissions and Registrar to discuss further.

When do I make my tuition deposit?

Do I have to pay my tuition in full before school starts?
When does my program start?

The majority of our programs start in September, but some start in January. See the Academic Calendar that applies to your stage of study.

When do I have to complete my mandatory prerequisite courses for my post-secondary program?

You must complete your mandatory prerequisite courses before the start of your post-secondary program.

Can I visit Collège Boréal before I register?

Is there a residence at Collège Boréal and how can I apply?
