Mr. Gilles Marchildon is appointed Director of Collège Boréal’s Toronto campus

Gilles Marchildon is a community leader who has held key positions in many public institutions in the fields of health, education and culture. In particular, from 2010 to 2014, he was the director of Action positive VIH/sida and afterwards became executive director of Reflet Salvéo, the French language service planning entity for Greater Toronto.

A native of Penetanguishene, he is well known as an advocate for French language and LGBTQ rights. In the early 2000s, he was a prominent figure in Egale Canada’s action in favour of extending marriage rights to same-sex couples. He currently serves as board vice-president of the Fondation franco-ontarienne and is a member of the Ontario Advisory Committee on HIV/AIDS.

Formerly, he was the board president of the Association des communautés francophones de l’Ontario – Toronto (ACFO-Toronto) and the co-president of the City of Toronto’s Comité francophone.

Gilles Marchildon is a recipient of the Ordre du Mérite franco-ontarien award.

A new director for a growing campus

Up until now, Collège Boréal had never appointed a director for its Toronto campus. This move reflects the college’s continuing growth in the Toronto area and the upcoming opening of its new campus in the Distillery District.

In his new role, Gilles Marchildon will be responsible for supervising the administration and development of services that the campus will provide in the areas of post-secondary education, continuing education, employment and immigration. He will also prepare the transition to the new campus and contribute to the development of relations between Collège Boréal and local community partners.

Gilles Marchildon will officially assume his new position on Monday, August 19, 2019.
