A guaranteed job at Au Château and a $1000 bursary for future students of Collège Boréal’s Personal Support Worker program in Nipissing

28 May 2019

Collège Boréal in Nipissing and the Au Château residence announced on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 the signing of a partnership agreement involving the college’s Personal Support Worker (PSW) program.

Through this agreement, Au Château has committed to offering a job and a $1000 bursary to all the graduates upon completion of the PSW program.

This agreement will come into effect for students registered at the start of the 2019 academic session.

Collège Boréal is pleased to have established this partnership with a prestigious organization such as Au Château. It is an indication of a high degree of confidence in the quality and professionalism of our graduates. Through proactive partnerships like this one, solutions can be found to alleviate the shortage of personal support workers in our northern communities.
We are very enthusiastic about this scholarship program in collaboration with Collège Boréal. This program values students who are not only interested in pursuing a PSW career, but who are also dedicated to caring for our seniors. PSWs play an important role in the health sector by providing a holistic approach to addressing the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of the residents they serve.
Anywhere from 75 to 90% of direct care in long-term care facilities is provided by personal support workers, whether it’s physical care, help with meals, personal hygiene, dressing, as well as emotional care and social interactions. With those numbers in mind, it’s quite obvious that the shortage of these vitally important professionals has a dramatic impact.
