Looking to work in a high-demand sector? If so, the electrical field is the perfect fit for you! Collège Boréal offers a free pre-apprenticeship electrical program in Sudbury specifically tailored for women. This program is made possible through the support of the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

During the Women in Electrical (Électricité pour femmes) pre-apprenticeship, participants will receive 20 weeks of training to learn the skills required to achieve Level 1 electrical training. Several other certifications are also available as part of this program, such as Hoisting and Rigging, Lockout/Tagout, and Working at Heights. In addition, the program concludes with an eight-week work placement in the electrical field. Christine St-Pierre, Pre-Apprenticeship Coordinator at Collège Boréal, points out that “not only is this program offered at no cost to participants, but all safety equipment (boots, goggles and gloves), as well as manuals, are also provided free of charge.”

Pre-apprenticeship programs such as this one aim to encourage more women to enter the job market in traditionally male-dominated fields. This opportunity provides participants with a range of economic and social possibilities.

The Women in Electrical pre-apprenticeship program begins on July 17, 2023.
