Celebrating a year of sporting success at the 2023 Vipères Gala

Award presentation for Collège Boréal students who excelled in sports during 2022-2023.

Yesterday today’s annual Collège Boréal Vipères gala, a total of 32 awards were presented by the College Life department and the sports sector of the AGEE (general student association).

Collège Boréal athletes were recognized for their achievements at the intramural, extramural, and intercollegiate levels during two ceremonies. The soccer, hockey, basketball, volleyball, and badminton teams were all celebrated, with their players receiving well-deserved awards for their outstanding season. One notable accomplishment was the Vipères futsal (indoor soccer) team winning their first-ever extramural tournament.

Men’s Badminton  

  • Jérémie Lamothe (from Timmins, ON): Top Rookie
  • Jacob Lefebvre (from Iroquois Falls, ON): Fair Play
  • Domenic St-Aubin (from Stoney Creek, ON): Most Valuable Player

Women’s volleyball

  • Maddison Loiselle (from Sudbury, ON): Most Valuable Player
  • Mégan Ouellette Destin (from Hawkesbury, ON): Best Performing Player
  • Alissa Plourde (from Hearst, ON): Most Improved Player
  • Madison Soulliere (from Chelmsford, ON): Top Rookie
  • Isabelle Wallace (from Corbeil, ON): Fair Play

Men’s volleyball

  • Jacob Démoré (from Sudbury, ON): Fair Play
  • Yanik Laurin (from Hanmer, ON): Top Rookie
  • Alexandre Léger (from Hanmer, ON): Most Valuable Player
  • Tyler Roussel (from Chelmsford, ON): Best Performing Player
  • Franck Alex Yameogo (from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso): Most Improved Player

Rookies of the Year

  • Yanik Laurin (from Hanmer, ON)
  • Madison Soulliere (from Chelmsford, ON)

Athletes of the Year 

  • Alexandre Léger (from Hanmer, ON)
  • Maddison Loiselle (from Sudbury, ON)

The Dennis Dionne Fair Play Award was presented to Domenic St-Aubin (from Stoney Creek, ON). Created in memory of Dennis Dionne, former coach of the badminton team at Collège Boréal, this award is given each year to an athlete who demonstrates outstanding team spirit.

The Alumni Award was presented this year to Josh Brown (from Sarnia, ON) for his significant contribution to community sports and promoting an active lifestyle in his community.

I am especially proud of our Vipères athletes who not only excelled in recreational sports but also withstood the immense pressure of returning to competition with the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association. Their results, dedication, and courage were all the more impressive!
