Description
A pre-apprenticeship program offers participants the opportunity to enhance their skills in preparation for entering an apprenticeship program in a skilled trade. Designed to meet the needs of the labour market in the region where they are offered, these programs may vary from year to year. They are FREE and offered in French only.
What to expect:
- Short-term programs (maximum 42 weeks), including an 8-week workplace placement. The total duration varies depending on the trade and skills to be acquired.
- Programs fully funded by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) – covering tuition, protective equipment, and manuals.
- Training aligned with apprenticeship program standards.
- Upgrading component offered in partnership with the Adult Upgrading Centre.
- Selection process includes an interview due to high demand.
Our Free Pre-Apprenticeship Programs (2025-2026)
Start Date: July 7, 2025
Duration: 30 weeks (full-time)
Location: Sudbury (in person)
Cost: Free
To be eligible, you must be:

- A woman or an individual identifying as a woman
- A Canadian citizen or permanent resident
- Underemployed or unemployed
This program is designed for women who wish to pursue a career in the heavy equipment field. It includes one week of orientation, 21 weeks of in-class training, and an 8-week workplace placement, for a total of 30 weeks. Participants will complete the equivalent of Level 1 training for trades 421A / 310T (Heavy Equipment Technician / Truck and Coach Technician). The program also includes upgrading and employment support services – all free of charge.
This program is funded by the Women’s Economic Security Program (WESP).

This 27-week program includes an 8-week workplace placement. Participants will complete the equivalent of Level 1 training for trade 433A (Industrial Mechanic Millwright). This trade involves the installation, repair, and maintenance of industrial machines and equipment, including mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. The program also includes upgrading and employment support services – all free of charge.
