Interprofessional Simulation: Managing an Aggressive Client in a Dental Clinic

27 January 2025

  • CNFS
On January 27, 2025, Collège Boréal hosted an immersive interprofessional simulation for students in the Dental Hygiene and Police Foundations programs.

The aim was to help them develop essential skills in communication, collaboration, and crisis management in a clinical setting.

A Realistic and Educational Scenario

During the simulation, both groups were confronted with an intoxicated client exhibiting incoherent and aggressive behaviour. The exercise involved several progressive phases, from client reception to police intervention to ensure everyone’s safety. Clear protocols and well-defined roles within the teams helped optimize client management and ensure a professional approach.

Learning Through Experience

This activity allowed participants to recognize signs of escalating aggression, intervene effectively while respecting professional and legal boundaries, and work as a team to defuse a potentially dangerous situation.

A Meaningful Debriefing

Following the simulation, a structured debriefing session provided an opportunity to analyze strategies used, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and reinforce interprofessional crisis management skills. Through these hands-on exercises, our Dental Hygiene and Police Foundations students are developing essential skills to prepare them for the realities of the field.

This innovative initiative highlights Collège Boréal’s commitment to practical, relevant training for tomorrow’s professionals!
