On February 20, 2025, Collège Boréal in Sudbury had the pleasure of welcoming 23 students from École secondaire catholique Thériault in Timmins for a fun, hands-on learning experience as part of its Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) in Health and Wellness. The program featured two flagship activities: an ambulation and lifting simulation and a medical terminology-themed escape room. Here’s a look back at this successful initiative, which has already generated excitement for a new edition in 2026!

Ambulation and Lifting: Learning by Doing

The first activity immersed students in an interactive simulation designed to teach best practices for safely moving and lifting patients. Guided by our experts, they learned essential safety techniques for providing care in a healthcare setting. This hands-on experience helped them develop practical skills while understanding the importance of safety and ergonomics in healthcare professions.

Medical Terminology Escape Room: A Fun Educational Challenge

The second activity took students on an exciting adventure—a medical terminology-themed escape room. Working in teams, they had to solve clever puzzles while testing their knowledge of medical vocabulary. This innovative approach not only reinforced their learning but also sparked laughter and fostered a strong team dynamic.

A Resounding Success

The students’ enthusiasm was evident throughout the day. Their engagement and curiosity made the event a true success—so much so that they have already booked for next year! Their excitement speaks to the effectiveness of these activities in inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals.

The Consortium national de formation en santé (CNFS) – Boréal section is proud to contribute to youth training by offering educational experiences that combine theory, practice, and fun. Congratulations to the students of École secondaire catholique Thériault for their dedication, and a heartfelt thank you to the entire team at the School of Health Sciences for making this day possible!
