Collège Boréal presents its 2020-2025 strategic plan with a focus on community development

Excellence in community service. At the heart of Collège Boréal’s fifth strategic plan since its founding is a focus on the quality of its training and services to foster the durable growth and development of Ontario’s Francophone communities.

The 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, which will be presented over the coming weeks in the 26 communities served by Collège Boréal, was unveiled Monday, January 20, 2020, at the college’s Toronto campus, with community partners and the presidents of Ontario’s 24 community colleges in attendance.

“The presence of our local community partners and all of Ontario’s community colleges in support of our project for the next five years is a strong signal that adds to our momentum as we launch our strategic plan and embark upon an impressive province-wide tour”, said Daniel Giroux, president of Collège Boréal.

A road map to Horizon 2025 laid out by the community

In developing its strategic plan, Collège Boréal faced the challenge of its unique geographic profile: spread across seven campuses and 38 sites throughout Ontario, the college deals with wide-ranging regional differences, from Hearst, its northern-most point, to Windsor, its counterpart in the south.

However, these diverse communities have in common a commitment to their French language and their economic vitality, which in turn provides Collège Boréal with a principle to guide its actions: meeting these communities’ needs.

Throughout a series of community and internal consultations, Collège Boréal listened to its communities and its staff – almost 1000 participants in total – to take stock of their vision for the college and to reflect their expectations in the institution’s future strategic directions.

Bold directions

Federating ideas arose from these consultations, such as the importance of offering programs adapted to the needs of these communities, the commitment to ensuring very high quality programs and work environments, and Collège Boréal’s contribution to these communities’ outreach. The focus of our efforts was recentered on three priorities: accessibility, quality and visibility.

Through its renewed vision and new key elements in the framework for its day-to-day efforts, Collège Boréal takes on its key role as a recognized force in the communities it serves as it strives to accompany, enrich and support their development through quality services and training.

Furthermore, Boréal’s values of excellence, humanism and respect, present in the previous plan and key to the college’s identity, are bolstered by the addition of two more values: engagement and integrity. These new key notions underscore Collège Boréal’s role as a community catalyst with a high degree of social responsibility.

Preparing a strategic plan is a unique opportunity for the board of governors that takes on the task. It’s an experience which allowed us to reflect deeply on who we are as a post-secondary educational institution and a major player for community development. I wish to thank the earlier board members who launched this process, all the members of the current board who brought it to fruition and to all of Collège Boréal’s teams who took part in the process over the past 18 months.

A strategic plan is certainly the most important working document in any organization. It sets the foundation for our efforts over the next five years and allows our college as a whole to look forward and especially to move forward in a common direction. And because our 2020-2025 Strategic Plan was developed by the communities we serve and by members of our staff with highly regarded expertise, I am pleased to see that it truly flows from a collective effort.

Collège Boréal offers comprehensive programs and services in seven campuses and 38 sites in 26 Ontario communities. Since 1995, approximately 120,000 clients across Ontario have benefited from Collège Boréal’s expertise relating to post-secondary education, training programs, immigration and settlement services, and employment services.
