Collège Boréal partners with the Wolves and the Five in a spirit of mutual support
Sporting spirit and goodwill come together in a unique partnership between Collège Boréal, SW Sports & Entertainment, the Sudbury Wolves hockey team and the Sudbury Five basketball team, as they join forces in a show of community solidarity.
Through the Companion program, volunteer students from Collège Boréal’s Health Sciences program will help seniors and persons with disabilities to attend Wolves and Five matches throughout the 2019-2020 season. The Companion program encourages those who might feel hesitant to go out and see a game by providing them with personal support so that they can enjoy their outing in optimal conditions. The student companions gain an opportunity to put their theoretical training into practice and add a volunteer experience to their résumé. The Sudbury Arena has allocated 200 adapted seats to the Companion program and a separate entrance off Minto Street provides safe access to the venue.
Ticket sales benefit the Boréal Foundation
This partnership between Collège Boréal and Sudbury’s two sports teams not only promotes personal support services, but also access to education. Thanks to a special rate for tickets reserved using a Boréal promo code, a portion of the ticket price is directed to the Boréal Foundation, which provides bursaries to help students pay for their studies.
“This is a win-win partnership,” says Kim Morris, dean of Collège Boréal’s School of Health Sciences. “With the help of our student companions, more people will be able to go see Wolves and Five games. With the revenue from the ticket sales, we will be able to help more students pay for their education. It’s a virtuous circle that benefits the entire community.”
Collaborating with local sports teams is a natural fit for Collège Boréal, given that the college also offers a Fitness and Health Promotion program and has been providing its gymnasium to the Five for training purposes since October 2019.
