Collège Boréal celebrates more than 500 graduates at its 28th convocation ceremonies

Collège Boréal is wrapping up a two-week tour of graduation ceremonies across the province.

Seven events celebrated Collège Boréal’s Class of 2023 graduates from Hearst, Kapuskasing, Nipissing, Ottawa, Sudbury, Timmins, Toronto, and Windsor, as well as Boréal Online’s virtual campus. More ceremonies will be added this fall to celebrate the achievements of students enrolled in the summer term.

With parents, families and other loved ones in attendance, Collège Boréal President Daniel Giroux and the institution’s top administrators handed out no fewer than 524 diplomas since May 23.

Academic Excellence Takes Centre Stage

True to its tradition of excellence, with the highest graduation rate among Ontario’s 24 colleges (for the 20th time in 23 years), Collège Boréal saw its 2023 graduating class shine, receiving 196 diplomas with distinction and 91 with highest distinction. As a reminder, Collège Boréal also boasts the highest graduate satisfaction rate for the 17th time in 23 years.

GOVERNOR GENERAL’S ACADEMIC MEDAL

The Governor General’s Academic Medal was awarded to Oluwadara Praise Salawu, from the Business program at the Sudbury campus. This distinction is awarded to a full-time student with the highest grade point average in a two-year degree program.

COLLÈGE BORÉAL’S EXCELLENCE AWARDS

  • Daniel Giroux Award, President of Collège Boréal

Pierrette Ilunga Nday, from the Business Administration – Accounting program at the Sudbury campus, is the recipient of this award. Worth $2,000, this award is presented to a student who is a member of a Collège Boréal sports team, who has excelled both academically and athletically, who is receiving a diploma, and who has demonstrated leadership and a positive attitude during their studies.

  • Pierre-Riopel Award, President of Collège Boréal from 2013 to 2016

Morel Libère Comlan Kotomale, from the Agricultural Techniques program at the Sudbury campus, is the recipient of this award. Worth $2,000, this award is presented to a student who is currently studying at Collège Boréal or receiving a diploma or certificate, who has demonstrated community leadership, mainly through volunteer work, and who, during their time at Collège Boréal, has shown exceptional commitment to Ontario’s Francophone community.

  • Gisèle-Chrétien Award, President of Collège Boréal from 1998 to 2006

Thomas Parker, from the Business Administration – Accounting program at the Timmins campus, is the recipient of this award. Worth $2,000, this award is presented to a student receiving a diploma or certificate from Collège Boréal after overcoming numerous obstacles and challenges and demonstrating perseverance and a positive attitude throughout their studies.

  • Jean-Watters Award, President of Collège Boréal from 1994 to 1998

Ayovi Joanita Thérésa Alodewou from the Architectural Technology program at the Sudbury campus is the recipient of this award. Worth $2,000, this award is presented to a student who is receiving a diploma or certificate from Collège Boréal, who has been a member of the general students’ association (AGEE) or other student government system, and who has demonstrated leadership qualities.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Worth $1,000, these scholarships are awarded to students receiving a diploma or certificate from Collège Boréal with the highest average in their family of programs.

  • School of Health Sciences: Josée Isabelle Vautour, Diagnostic Medical Sonography – Ultrasound, Sudbury Campus
  • School of Business and Community Services: Marine Noel, Early Childhood Education Administration, Boréal en ligne
  • School of Trades and Applied Technology: Tristan Larouche, Electrical Engineering Technician, Sudbury Campus

Collège Boréal Foundation

Thanks to the generosity of the people and organizations who supported the Collège Boréal Foundation in 2022-2023, more than 2,300 scholarships were awarded to Boréal students for a total value of over $1.4 million.

From Toronto to Hearst and Ottawa to Sudbury, Collège Boréal travels the province to celebrate the many graduates of its health, trades, environment, technology, business and community services programs. The confidence that Ontario students placed in our institution at the start of their college careers is now being rewarded, and we are proud to see them enter the job market with confidence, equipped with the solid skills that will contribute to the growth of our society.
Collège Boréal’s graduation ceremonies give meaning to our mission: to foster the growth and sustainable development of Ontario’s francophone communities through talented graduates who will enrich our communities. Congratulations to this new, highly qualified workforce, as it meets the needs of a job market where bilingualism is essential in many fields.
