A Collège Boréal student receives the 2019 Francophone Women’s award
An ambassador for peace at Collège Boréal. At the convention of the International Association of Francophone Mayors held in Phnom Pehn (Cambodia) December 2 to 4, a Boréal student was awarded the 2019 Prix de la femme francophone (Francophone Women’s Award).
Ms. Maïmou Wali was recognized for her commitment to promoting peace and non-violence. In her country of origin, Niger, she created the Cercle de réflexion et d’action pour un développement local innovant (Reflection and Action Circle for Innovative Local Development) or Cercle.Dev, a grassroots organization with 3000 volunteer members who work to prevent radicalization and to counter extremism among youth.
The Prix de la femme francophone award salutes the commitment of women to local development and particularly their ability to carry out projects that have positive impacts on their communities.
Peace and Conflict Studies
As an international student at Collège Boréal’s Toronto campus, Ms. Wali is pursuing her studies in the Peace and Conflict Studies program, which is very much in line with her personal commitment.
After graduation, she hopes to continue her efforts to promote peace and non-violence, particularly in the Sahel region and throughout the world.
Ms. Wali’s nomination for the award was submitted by the Association of Municipalities of the Sahel region in Africa, of which Niger is a member.
