Collège Boréal’s Early Childhood Communication and Public Relations program trains professionals to communicate effectively with children and families while developing communication management skills in the early childhood field. It provides students with an in-depth understanding of communication principles and the practical skills needed to work in a variety of related environments.

Full Description
This continuing education program consisting of three part-time courses allows professionals in the field to acquire the knowledge and skills required to ensure compliance with the provincial legislative framework, including expectations related to professionalism, public relations and the learning environment. This micro-certificate also allows participants to enhance their professional communication skills and develop sensitive and caring relationships that highlight instructional approaches in line with the vision of the Early Learning and Child Care Framework.
Program Courses
In this course, students identify managers’ roles and responsibilities related to family inclusion, considering their needs and the circumstances. Students will then be able to recommend strategies to implement in early childhood education to improve communication at all levels, while accounting for cultural influences, family circumstances, values and the importance of relations. Lastly, students will examine what role early childhood education managers play in linguistic development and identity building as a go-between for families and the community.
In this course, students will develop their skills in order to create a safe, healthy environment that fosters children’s holistic development and supports team members, all while respecting the values, beliefs and philosophy of the organization. Students will study social and physical environment management and the importance of developing community partnerships, among other topics. The course will cover a range of subjects, including collaboration, schedule management, alternative practices, healthy habits, reception, classroom layout, resources, professional standards and partnerships.
In this course, students will develop the skills they need for communication. They will learn to differentiate between, select and implement a variety of strategies for writing a range of documents, in order to effectively communicate with parents, employees, their board of directors and their community. The course also handles how to run meetings that are informative, build consensus and provide a forum for feedback. Lastly, the course will dive into problem-solving techniques. Education professionals are expected to produce high-quality communications, no matter the form, which is why this course covers core concepts like organizing your thoughts, expressing yourself and employing clear language.
